Since the folks reading DKos are politically astute, I was hoping you might want to play along with something I did today - I wrote to my elected officials requesting that all military bases and personnel be removed from Texas.
Here's what I sent:
Dear Senator/Congressman:
My apologies if this note comes across as the rant of a 'crazy person', but I am attempting to focus attention on the people of Texas, including their Governor, who believe that Martial Law is the intent of planned military exercises in their state.
If Texans believe that the U.S. military is conducting Jade Helm 15 military exercises to establish martial law - grant the wish and remove all the military bases from Texas and take the 200,000 (+/-) military jobs to New York or other states that would welcome these honorable men and women.
With all due respect, use this as a teaching moment to highlight the collective delusion that is all too pronounced in the modern republican party.
I don't know, maybe my notion is just snarky, but I'm sure that military 'brass' should not be wasting their time defending themselves against the accusation that they are planning to initiate martial law against the citizens of Texas.
Frankly, it just seems logical to me to interject something into this conversation that shines a light on the lack of critical thinking coming from the state of Texas. That bright light would be - if Texans believe martial law is possible, eliminate the possibility by removing the resources and personnel from Texas.
It is clear that the people of Texas are afraid of our military, so let us eliminate their concerns by removing the military personnel who are being accused of contemplating Constitutional atrocities.
I wish there was something funny in all this, but the collective delusion from the right-wing (and the silence from this who know better) is more frightening than anything else.
Maybe, just maybe, democrats could try to play into the nonsense and make these people out to be what they are - crazy.
I realize that the U.S. has national security interests by stationing military units at our borders, but it'd still be nice to get a democrat (maybe Al Fraken) to make light of this nonsense.
And while I welcome your thoughts and comments, I am off to my weekly volunteering in my child's classroom - where, unlike Texas, children are taught critical thinking - so I will be unable to read and/or respond to your poignant replies until much later today.
